BIOGRAPHY
PURPOSE:
The purpose of a biographical recount is to inform by retelling past events and achievements in a person’s life. It typically includes important details and facts of someone’s life, their childhood, educational background, professional life, marriage, children, and most outstanding achievements.
STRUCTURE:
The texts consist of three parts:
Part 1: orientation
It given the reader the background information as two why this person is noteworthy and should have a biography written about them. The opening paragraph should answer the questions: who, what, where, when, and how.
Part 2: series
It presents a series of events, usually told in chronological order. Here the writer might refer to a certain time on line.
Part 3: reorientation
It consists of a type of conclusion with a comment on the contributions this person has made or a summary and evaluation of the person’s achievement.

PART 2
Instructions:
Introduction
In a biographical essay, you write about the life and personality of a person who actually lived. A biographical essay should have the following characteristics:
- a real-life subject
- a thesis statement that states a specific idea about that person’s life and achievements
- an account of one or more major events in the subject’s life
- a description of the subject’s key character traits

4. Highlight all of the ????? section in red.
5. Under the column heading "Text Features"- write "CLASSIFICATION" capitalised, in bold and size 16 font.

6. Underneath this heading, write your own definition of classification.
7. Highlight all of the description section in blue.
8. Under the column heading "Text Features"- write "DESCRIPTION" capitalised, in bold and size 16 font.
Discussion: What do we do when we describe?
Underneath this, write your own definition of a description.
9. Underline the topic sentences in each of the description paragraphs.
Discussion: What is a topic sentence? What term have we already used that serves a similar role to a topic sentence?
10. Find any technical words that relate to the topic, italicise these words and change them to an orange font colour.
PART 3
Instructions:
As a class we are going to use the "Antarctica" report example, to do a joint re write of your pre-writing sample "Australia"
1. Download the document "information_report_rewrite_student_copy"
2. Use a similar sentence structure from "Antarctica" as a guide for your "Australia" report.
3. Start with the classification then proceed to the description section.
4. Save your work onto your USB.
