P1_5: Proofreading
PART 1: Read Theory
Read theory is web tool to engage you with reading and comprehension (understanding what you read). You will need to:
1. Go to readtheory.org
2. Complete your monitoring booklet (yellow booklet) as you read through the text
3.Answer the comprehension questions and submit your answers. The program will mark your responses and provides you with instant feedback.
4. Any questions you get wrong, go through your feedback and indicate where/ why or how you got it wrong.

1. Go to: www.eduplace.com/kids/hme/k_5/proofread/proof.htm to play Grammar training. 2.
This activity is based at a radio station.
3. Choose grade 8 then the first passage City Beat News (common and proper nouns).
4. On the bottom left of the screen, click on ‘Grammar Help’ icon and write the definition onto the definition sheet. Read through the information to help you play the game.
5. Once you are in the text, click on the correction and edit the text.

As a class we are going to use the recount of The Solar Eclipse, to do a joint re write. Choose one of the following topics to do your recount:
1. A family holiday
2. A birthday
3. A memorable sporting match
Instructions:
1. Use the document "recount_re_write_student" as a guide to help you structure your re write.
2. Go to your Google Drive account. See HOW TO GUIDE: Google Drive
3. Click on your class folder, your folder and open recount re write file.
4. Use the example to guide your rewrite.
5. Start with the orientation then proceed to the sequence of event and finish with the conclusion section.
6. View the student marking criteria in google drive to proof your work.
Things to address with your re write:
- Who is the audience?
- What is the purpose?
- Is it written in third person?
- Does it

2. present information in timed sequence?
3. Give your opinion about what happened?
On completion of your rewrite...
7. Pair up with a class member
8. Open their folder
9. Open their recount document (they will do the same with your folder and document)
10. Using the student marking criteria, provide feedback on your partners work.
- This can be done through the comments section or typing directly onto their page.
- Provide constructive feedback that will allow you partner to improve their work. Do not type any offensive or unrelated content on their document.
