Year 7 Testing
PART 1: ACER
ACER is a test of how well you understand what you read. The test is made up of a number of short paragraphs, each of which is followed by one question. Three choices are given each for each question; A,B &C but only one of these answers are correct. You are to choose the one answer which you think is correct.
On your answer sheet, there is a special place for answering each question, and each place has the letters A, B and C beside it. You areto show the best answer by circling the correct letter.

PART 2: Spelling
You will be given a spelling test prior to commencing the Literacy Program. This result will be compared to a post spelling test of the same words at the end of the Program. Throughout the Year 7 program, you will be partaking in weekly spelling tests that provide instant feedback to develop spelling skills.
PART 3: Word Maze
A student's ability to comprehend text requires the presence of a bundle of component reading skills, including strong reading vocabulary, fluent decoding, and use of efficient and effective 'fix-up' strategies when encountering unknown words (National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, 2000).
Instructions:
1. When I say 'begin', start reading the story silently.
2. Wherever you come to a group of 3 word-choices, circle the word that makes sense.
3. Work as fast as you can but do your best work. If you finish the first page, go to the next page and continue working until I tell you to stop."
4. After 3 minutes, the examiner stops the stopwatch and says:"Stop. Pencils down".
PART 4: Writing
A writing sample will be collected to compare pre, ongoing and post improvements.
