P3_8: Adjectives and Articles
PART 1: Read Theory
Read theory is web tool to engage you with reading and comprehension (understanding what you read). You will need to:
1. Go to readtheory.org
2. Complete your monitoring booklet (yellow booklet) as you read through the text
3.Answer the comprehension questions and submit your answers. The program will mark your responses and provides you with instant feedback.
4. Any questions you get wrong, go through your feedback and indicate where/ why or how you got it wrong.
PART 2: Skill building (NoredInk)
Adjectives and Articles
RECAP:
Adjective are words that describe or modify another person or thing in the sentence.
Examples:
There are only three Articles: the, a and an.
Examples:
Can you please hand me a coat?
Can you please pass me the coat?
Can yo please pass me an apple?
The, a and an are very small words but can cause large problems if used incorrectly.
The use of an article can also change the meaning of the noun:
Examples:
If you wanted someone to hand you the coat, but you accidentally said a coat, the other person might hand you ANY coat but you wanted one specific coat you wanted to wear.
Other Examples:
dinner = the evening meal
a dinner = an evening meal held for some kind of event
the dinner = a specific evening meal which was held for some kind of event

PART 3: Writing (Exposition re write continued)
As a class we are going to use the "Dear Parents" exposition example, to do a joint re write of your choice.
Some example topics are:
- school uniforms should not be compulsory
- mobile phones should be banned
- school term should only go for 8 weeks
1. Use the document "exposition_report_rewrite_student_copy" to assist you.
2. Use a similar sentence structure from "Dear Parents" as a guide for your exposition.
3. Go to your Google Drive account. See HOW TO GUIDE: Google Drive
3. Click on your class folder, your folder and open recount re write file.
4. Use the example to guide your rewrite.
5. Start with the introduction then proceed to the arguments and finish with the conclusion section.
6. View the student marking criteria in google drive to proof your work.

- What is he purpose?
- Is it written in third person?

- Provide constructive feedback that will allow you partner to improve their work. Do not type any offensive or unrelated content on their document.
