YEAR 7
The Year 7 Literacy program is divided into 3 phases and focusses on three main areas:
1. Spelling
Commonly misspelt words were identified through NAPLAN analysis. These words have been used to create a set of spelling lists of increasing difficulty. Students practice words online using a variety of games and online tests.
Once students have achieved mastery of a list they move onto the next list. For students who are experiencing difficulty with the mainstream list, an alternative pathway is provided with a focus on primary school common core words.
2. Word Flyers
(Punctuation, Grammar, Reading & Comprehension and NAPLAN)
Word Flyers is a web 2 tool that provides you with the opportunity to learn and practise essential literacy skills in the areas of vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, reading, comprehension, writing and grammar. Learning takes place in context with over 300 word texts and caters for a range of ability levels within units spanning 12 levels.
Each lesson and unit of work contains narrated and onscreen tutorials and texts to motivate and encourage students. The lessons are engaging and provide instant feedback.
4. Writing
The writing section aims to improve the student's ability to identify key information from information sources, highlight and note take from a range of information sources and text types and then transform written notes into clear, interesting and effective prose.
