Post Writing Marking Activity (Recount)
Activity blurb:
You will be given back your pre and post writing tasks and be asked to mark both RECOUNT pieces. Your teacher will give you (and go through) a marking criteria to assist you in your marking. You need use this to justify your marks (making sure to use evidence from your writing piece). You will then compare your (student) marking to the official (teacher) marking.
Purpose:
1. To understand all elements that make a quality piece of writing
2. To take ownership of writing tasks.
2. To show improvement/ growth (pre to post)
Instructions:
1. Read through your pre writing sample.
2. The teacher will explain all the elements of the marking criteria sheet (they may also go through each aspect and walk you through marking your first piece).
3. Align your work to the marking criteria to give yourself a score for each element.
4. Once you have finished, compare your score to that from your teacher.
Ask yourself:
- How does it compare? How close was my score to my teachers?
- Have I overestimated/ underestimated my abilities? Why? What aspects?
- Do I understand why my score was different to my teachers?
- Do I understand why I did not get full marks? Do i know what is expected to get full marks?
- What are my areas of strength?
- What do I need to work on in the future? What elements do I need to address?
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for your post writing sample.
6. Once you have finished, think about/ discuss:
- Why did my teacher have me do this task?
- What are the benefits of doing this?
- What can I learn from this activity?
- How can i transfer this skill to other subject areas?
