YEAR 8
Phase 1 lessons are divided into three parts; each part typically 15 minutes in length.
1. Reading and Comprehension
Read theory is web tool to engage you with reading and comprehension (understanding what you read). It caters for the individual needs for students through a level and point system, tracks performance and allows students to reflect on their performance through a self monitoring booklet.
2. Skill building (Punctuation and Grammar)
Part 2 focuses on skill building targeting explicit punctuation and grammar aspects identified as areas of need (through SMART data). Students are typically exposed to a tutorial then instructed to either hyperlink to external websites (where they engage in interactive and educational activities to refine practical skills of literacy) or download interactive documents from the website (to work on collaboratively)
The skill building section also comprises of a web tool: NoRedink. NoRedInk is a free web tool which provides students with pre quizzes (used to collect preliminary data), tutorials on varying literacy aspects, assignments, assessments and post quizzes (to record growth). It provides students with instant feedback and multiple opportunities to cement literacy skills through practical applications.
4. Writing:
Textual features of a variety of texts are explored through a Read to Learn (R2L) approach Part 3 utilises past NAPLAN reading magazines to deepen students comprehension, information identification, summarising and writing skills through a range of modeled, guided and independent writing opportunities. To assist with this process, we are going to use PBworks to work in small groups to create, edit and comment on collaborative writing tasks.
